In early 2010 the Affordable Care Act (ACA) became law and changed companies’ HR structures across the board. Due to ACA, companies nationwide are required to provide the opportunity for both full-time and part-time employees full health benefits. Many businesses decided right away that this new law would have a significant impact on their business. At FirstLight Home Care though, we’ve taken a pro-active approach to this sweeping legislation in order to implement the Affordable Care Act as well as train our current and future franchisees to understand their requirements as FirstLight Home Care owners
While the ACA is not easy legislation to understand completely, it also affects the cost of doing business for all businesses large and small, including franchises. We’ve dually noted that there continue to be changes to the ACA, (which is another separate challenge for our franchisees, as well as other businesses alike-to understand the legislation and stay up-to-date on any and all potential changes), and have committed resources to staying abreast of any changes, as they become known. In fact, we keep a close watch on healthcare legislation in general and are committed to continually educating ourselves on legislation so we are able to accurately answer any questions or concerns our owners may have about current and future healthcare laws. We will also continue to seek out new ways to incorporate current and future changes that have the potential to become law, and we will determine the best options for each of our franchisees on an individual basis by evaluating their current state of transition in to the Affordable Care Act.
We will continue to use our resources through the IFA (International Franchise Association) and trade affiliations to continue to be proactive with the implementation of requirements of ACA, looking ahead to possible changes to ACA in the future and researching ways to help our franchisees execute, understand and benefit from what’s required of them by ACA. Our franchisees appreciate our dedication in guiding them through the ACA transition, and have expressed to us how much our work and research has benefited them already. We look forward to 2014 and the continued growth that’s in store for FirstLight Home Care, and we are fully prepared to manage ACA effectively so we may continue to be one of the strongest home healthcare companies in the industry.
